RTET :  TET qualifying marks set at 60%; 2011 results cancelled

In its verdict the court clarified that there was no relaxation 

for any class in the qualifying criteria. 

The only relaxation was in the form of application fee in 

which the applicants from the reserved category were given 

relaxation as per rules.

 

Jaipur: Those aspiring for teacher’s job in school would now have to secure a minimum of 60 per cent in the Teacher’s Eligibility Test (TET).

In a landmark verdict, the Rajasthan High Court while setting aside the relaxations made for applicants from reserved categories by the government (see box) pronounced there was and would be no relaxation in the eligibility percentage for clearing TET.

 

The court cancelled the qualification of candidates from reserved categories who had earlier passed the test on the basis of relaxation in pass percentage. 

 

According to sources, thousands of candidates who were selected for teacher’s post by relaxing qualifying marks, would now be rendered ineligible. The court’s latest order makes it mandatory for a candidate from any candidate to secure 60 per cent of the maximum marks. Therefore, those selected below 60% mark are no longer eligible for the grade 3 teachers’ post in schools.

 

The decision was pronounced by the bench of chief justice Amitabh Roy and

 

justice Nisha Gupta. The court rejected the appeals of the state government and 28 others seeking relaxation for reserved categories in TET. 

In its verdict the court clarified that there was no relaxation 

for any class in the qualifying criteria. 

The only relaxation was in the form of application fee in 

which the applicants from the reserved category were given 

relaxation as per rules.

 

In its judgement, the court has also waned that rules of 

migration of candidates from reserved categories to the 

general category list should be kept in mind before declaring 

the TET result.

 

A single bench of the High Court had earlier rejected 

eligibility of the candidates securing below 55% marks in 

October 2012. The verdict was challenged by the state 

government and 28 others in the higher bench of the court, 

which gave its verdict on Tuesday.

What I felt about this news -

Last time Government was defeated in court by giving concession to pass candidates, who obtained below 55% marks.

And therefore State Government approached to Double Bench of Rajasthan High Court, And Rajasthan High Court Double Bench passed a new Order that -

NCTE has not specified concession in passing marks and concession they specified is in the form of - fee , educational qualification to appear in TET.

And therefore Qualifying marks for TET is 60% to all categories.
